Safety doesn’t just happen. It is not a matter of luck. You have to think about it and you have to work on it. You have to learn how to be safe and to do your work in a safe manner. You have to know the rules and work with those rules in mind.
Some of the most important rules are those that require safety equipment. Wear your bump cap, safety glasses, gloves, steel toe shoes, sleeves, and earplugs. You may need only one piece of this equipment only once in your life. However an accident like the loss of an eye can happen in an instant and affect you for the rest of your life.
Do not bypass guards or safety equipment. Watch what is going on around you, signal your intentions, and watch out for your coworkers.
Don’t depend on luck to keep you safe. And don’t blame bad luck for your misfortune.
